Hacked by r4diationz

Hacked by r4diationzMany aquarium owners first started their love of the hobby with a Betta or a Goldfish as their first fish. You can learn a lot about the care of fish by starting out with one of these popular fish in a fishbowl or Betta vase. Here's more information that will help you decide which "buddy" may suit you best!

Bettas

Bettas are beautiful, elegant fish that come in vibrant colors-from the blues and purples, to red and maroon hues, they can be very colorful. Bettas are a very popular fish and can be seen not only in fishbowls, but in a variety of vase containers. People love the low maintenance of this fish, as well as the beauty and tranquility it brings to its environment. Many people are now enjoying their Bettas at work, as well as at home.

In captivity, Bettas can have a life span from three to five years. Keep in mind, however, that Bettas are at approximately one year old by the time they are sold in most pet stores, otherwise their fins would not have developed fully yet. It is important to provide your Betta with a large enough fishbowl, vase container or aquarium. They will thrive best in a 2-gallon container or larger aquarium that has a variety of community fish. Just be sure to never put two male Bettas together, as their instinct would be to fight each other. Otherwise, Bettas are a very peaceful fish.

Goldfish

Goldfish come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The Goldfish is one of the most popular fish in the world today. These fish need a certain amount of tender loving care in order for them to flourish in your fishbowl or aquarium.

Take your time when choosing the Goldfish you want at your local pet store. When selecting your Goldfish, seek out healthy-looking fish. Your Goldfish should be active, and coloring should be bright. Your fish's fins should be opened and beautifully displayed. If possible, ask the pet store to feed them, to assure your fish has a good appetite. Goldfish should not have Ick (white spots), torn fins, missing scales, clamped fins, fungus, or any other apparent signs of disease. Fish should not be breathing hard or hiding in the stock tank that they are being kept in. It is also advisable to avoid fish from an overcrowded tank or one in which there are dead fish.

Once you have selected your Goldfish, be sure you have an appropriately sized fishbowl or aquarium to make a home for it. And remember, the larger the fishbowl or aquarium, the healthier your Goldfish will be and the longer it will live. Give your fish plenty of space to grow beautifully and allow plenty of room for swimming. Make sure that the decorations you place in your fishbowl or aquarium have no rough nor sharp edges that might hurt the fish. The gravel you use should be large enough so when fish won't take in gravel when scavenging the bottom for uneaten food.

Here's how to make your fishbowl a happy home for your Betta or Goldfish buddy!

Putting Your Fish In Its New Home

Before adding your fish to its new home, wash the container and other accessories with Jungle Seri Clean to remove dust or residue. Use Jungle Gravel Wash to clean the gravel.

Add tap water up to 1-2 inches below the lip (or widest part) of the container, creating as much water surface area as possible to provide fish with ample oxygen. Drop in one Bowl Buddies fizz tab and watch it fizz as it immediately makes the water safe for your Betta or Goldfish. Bowl Buddies are safe to use in any size container, two gallon or smaller. You can now place your fish in its new home. Use a fish net to remove the Betta or Goldfish from the fish bag and place it in the container of conditioned water. (Do not add bag water to the container.) If your Betta or Goldfish was in a bowl when you purchased it, then you will need to consider doing a water change when you get home.

Making Routine Water Changes

Routine water changes are important to help keep your fish's home clean and healthy. Completely change the water in your container once a week using a Bowl Buddies fizz tab. To change the water, place your Betta or Goldfish in another container with the old water while cleaning out your fish's home, gravel and accessories. For best results, use Seri Clean and Gravel Wash. Add tap water up to 1-2 inches below the lip (or widest part) of the bowl. Drop in one Bowl Buddies fizz tab and watch it fizz! You can now place your Betta or Goldfish back in its clean home.

For 10-gallon tanks: Bowl Buddies fizz tabs are also great for making 25% water changes (up to 2.5 gallons) in 10-gallon tanks. Add tablet to tank, then add new water.

Feeding Instructions

Bettas: Feed 1-3 pellets two to three times daily.

Goldfish: Feed no more than your fish will eat within three minutes two times a day.

DO NOT OVERFEED!
